Accommodation

St Bathans jail and constable's cottage are two of the town’s original buildings, built in 1884. Both have a strong sense of history and are an enjoyable place to relax, unwind and immerse yourself in Central Otago history.

Constable's Cottage

The three-bedroomed cottage sleeps 6 (two rooms with queen-size beds, one with 2 single beds). The cottage features...

  • An elegant, sunny veranda
  • Views over the lake
  • Fully self-contained
  • Freeview TV

The Jail (Gaol)

The self-contained jail, located on a terrace above the cottage, is also available.

This has a queen size and a small single bed and Freeview TV.

Dining

While the cottage provides cooking facilities, the mud-brick Vulcan Hotel (Phone: +64 3 447 3629), built in the 1860s, is a two-minute walk up the main street and offers excellent dining, cooked breakfasts and good coffees as well as interesting local company in its cozy bar.

Continental breakfast is provided for all bookings in both the jail and the cottage.
