St Bathans Image Gallery
St. Bathans and its surrounds - the Blue Lake from the cottage verandah, some features of local buildings, seasonal variations.

History and Archeology
This selection of photographs shows 19th century St. Bathans, typical of a Central Otago gold mining town. The archaeology of gold mining is evident in the Blue Lake itself, and the remains that can be seen from the Department of Conservation walking tracks. Main Street (today's Loop Road) still has historic buildings from this era of St Bathans' past. The Department of Conservation panels erected near the Blue Lake walkway explain this story. Come and explore further!

Seasons
St. Bathans' climate, with temperatures over 30 degrees in summer and frosty winters with snow, is reflected in changes in the landscape and its colours. Winter is great!! The cottage is warm inside with the wood burner; outside the landscape is fantastic and it just might snow. Summer is great too - it can be super hot; enjoy the garden, swim in the lake. Then of course Central Otago is celebrated for its autumn colours ....
